Located off the southern coast of South Korea, Jeju Island is known as the “Hawaii of Asia”. Its tropical climate means that it has many beaches with turquoise waters and palm trees lining them. The island also boasts spectacular volcanic landscapes which are dotted with hot springs, waterfalls, caves, and other natural wonders.

Speaking of the hot springs, the Sanbangsan Mountain Hot Spring is a great place to visit if you want to experience some of the best that Jeju Island has to offer. The water is said to have medicinal properties and is known to relieve muscle pain and stress.

Another must-visit spot on Jeju Island is the Manjanggul lava tube. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best-preserved lava tubes in the world. It’s also one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island, so be sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds.

If you’re looking for a more active vacation, then Jeju Island is also home to some of the best hiking trails in Korea. Mt. Hallasan is a particular favorite among hikers. At 1,950 meters tall, it’s the highest mountain in South Korea. The hike to the summit is challenging but definitely worth it for the breathtaking views.

There are also plenty of exciting activities that you can take part in on Jeju Island, such as scuba diving, horseback riding, and ATV tours. And of course, no trip to Jeju Island would be complete without indulging in some of the delicious local seafood.

There are numerous tourist attractions to see here, including museums, temples, parks, and golf courses. You can take day trips from Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan. There are also regular flights connecting the island to all major cities across South East Asia.

So if you’re looking for a relaxing and luxurious vacation, then Jeju Island should definitely be at the top of your list.

So, for all those who hadn’t heard of Jeju Island until it was mentioned with such esteem in Squid Game, by the beautiful Korean actress, Lee Yoo-Mi, or better known in the series, as “Ji-yeong”, this is where’s at and what it’s about! Jeju Island is definitely worth a visit.

Ulleungdo

Situated near Ulleungdo National Park, Ulleungdo is an archipelago consisting of more than 30 small islands. It was once used as a prison camp during Japan’s colonial rule over Korea (1876–1910), but now it offers visitors plenty of opportunities to get close to nature.

You will find lots of wildlife living around the area, such as sea turtles, seals, otters, and even rare birds, so you should bring along binoculars! There are several hiking trails available that lead through forests and fields, past lakes and rivers, and up mountainsides.

Visitors can stay at accommodation facilities located throughout the park, and they offer everything from camping sites and huts to luxury villas and apartments. However, because of its remote location, it isn’t advisable to visit without a guide.

Ganghwado

Another of the great islands of Korea that you may want to consider visiting, is Ganghwado, which is located in the Yellow Sea off the west coast of the peninsula. It’s a popular destination for fishing and birdwatching, as well as for its many historical sites. These include the Imjin River Estuary Museum, which documents the 1592 Japanese invasion of Korea; the Ganghwa Peace Observatory, which offers views of North Korea; and the Ganghwa Natural History Museum, which is home to a collection of dinosaur fossils.

There are also several beaches on the island, as well as mountains, forests, and temples. You can take a ferry from Incheon or Ansan, or you can fly into Jeju Island and take a connecting flight.

Geojedo

One of the biggest draws for tourists visiting Geojedo is the chance to swim in its famous hot springs. These mineral rich waters have been used since ancient times, and today they are still enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. As the name implies, the springs contain high levels of sulfuric acid.

Despite this, the water remains safe to drink thanks to the presence of minerals: calcium carbonate, iron, magnesium, sodium chloride, strontium chloride, silica, and zinc. Some hotels provide towels specifically designed to protect against the acidity of the water. Visitors can bathe in the springs between 10am and 6pm, although the pool closes earlier in winter. Always check the times on your own, to be sure, as times can be subject to change.

Bijindo Island

The largest of the Bijin Islands of Korea, Bijindo Island is located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Incheon. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is made up of four separate islands – Haenyeo, Seomunsan, Hwanggabu, and Sajikdol – and they each feature unique geological characteristics.

Haenyeo is home to a large number of endemic plants, while Seomunsan is covered with pine forests. At the foot of the mountain sits Hwanggabu, which contains hot springs. Finally, Sajikdol consists of two peaks, one of which rises above 1,000 meters (3,280 feet). Many hikers make their way up these slopes in search of fresh air and breathtaking views.

These islands are best visited during the dry season when the weather conditions are less harsh, but they are also popular among those seeking peace and quiet away from urban areas. For example, you could choose to spend your entire trip on one of the islands rather than having to travel back and forth between them.
